ThaPuzzler.com is a daily rebus puzzle game operated by Tha Puzzler. We post one new puzzle every day and track solve times and city statistics to create a fun, competitive experience for our players.
2. Information We Collect
We collect minimal information to operate the site:
- Name (optional) — If you choose to enter your name on the leaderboard after solving a puzzle, that name is stored locally on your device and displayed on today's board. We do not require your real name.
- Solve data — Your solve time and attempt count are stored in your browser's local storage to track your personal history and display leaderboard results.
- City and state — We use your IP address to determine your approximate city and state for the City Leaderboard feature. We do not store your exact IP address.
- Email address (optional) — If you subscribe to our newsletter, we collect your email address to send you daily puzzle notifications. You can unsubscribe at any time.
3. How We Use Your Information
- To display leaderboard rankings for today's puzzle
- To show city and state solve statistics on the City Leaderboard
- To send daily puzzle emails to newsletter subscribers
- To improve the site experience based on aggregate usage patterns
We do not use your information for any purpose other than operating ThaPuzzler.com.
4. Cookies and Local Storage
ThaPuzzler.com uses your browser's local storage to save your solve history, leaderboard name, and preferences. This data never leaves your device unless you explicitly submit it (such as entering a leaderboard name). You can clear this data at any time through your browser settings.
We may use cookies for analytics purposes to understand how visitors use the site in aggregate. No personally identifiable information is tied to these cookies.
5. Google AdSense
We display advertisements through Google AdSense. Google may use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this or other websites. You can opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google's Ad Settings. We do not control the data collected by Google AdSense.
6. IP Geolocation
We use a third-party geolocation service (ipapi.co) to determine your approximate city and state when you visit the site. This is used solely to power the City Leaderboard feature. We do not store your IP address. The geolocation service has its own privacy policy available at ipapi.co.
7. Email Newsletter
If you subscribe to our newsletter we use Email Octopus to manage our mailing list. Your email address is stored securely with Email Octopus and is used only to send you daily puzzle emails and occasional announcements. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link at the bottom of any email. We do not sell or share your email address with third parties.
8. Data Sharing
We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information to anyone. We do not share your data with third parties except as required to operate the site (Google AdSense, ipapi.co geolocation, Email Octopus newsletter) as described above.
9. Children's Privacy
ThaPuzzler.com is intended for general audiences. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
10. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Clear your local solve history and leaderboard data at any time through your browser settings
- Unsubscribe from our newsletter at any time
- Request that we delete any personal information we hold about you
- Opt out of personalized advertising through Google's Ad Settings
11. Data Security
Most of your data lives in your own browser's local storage and never touches our servers. For data that does reach our servers (newsletter email, leaderboard submissions) we use industry-standard security practices to protect it.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. When we do we will update the effective date at the top of this page. Continued use of ThaPuzzler.com after any changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
